James Cameron, the famous director of Terminator, has joined the Board of Directors (CdA) of Stability AI. The king of special effects will be involved in the development of new opportunities leveraging Artificial Intelligence.

“Today our CEO, @premakkaraju announced that the legendary director, technological innovator, and visual effects pioneer James Cameron has joined the Board of Directors of Stability AI. Cameron’s entry represents a significant step forward in our mission to transform visual media. His artist-centered perspective, combined with his commercial and technical acumen, will be invaluable as we continue to build a full stack AI pipeline that unlocks new opportunities for creators to tell stories in ways once unimaginable.”

In practice, Cameron’s role in StabilityAI will be to use AI in special effects, also known as computer-generated images (CGI).

According to what was reported, Cameron would have commented on this new assignment as follows:

“I have spent my career searching for emerging technologies that push the boundaries of what is possible, all in the service of incredible stories. I was at the forefront of CGI more than thirty years ago and have always been at the forefront since then. Now, the intersection between generative AI and the creation of images in CGI is the next wave”

Already in 1984, Cameron wrote and directed The Terminator, as a rogue artificial intelligence called Skynet that threatens the existence of humanity.

Specifically, the new role of Cameron in StabilityAI will be to support the creation of Stable Diffusion. It involves exploring the ways in which AI technology can be used in films.

Not only that, one of Cameron’s first challenges in his new role will be to strengthen StabilityAI’s position in the broader generative AI landscape, where it faces strong competition.

James Cameron is an Oscar-winning director. Besides Terminator, Cameron is also known for having created Avatar, the highest-grossing film of all time, rich in special effects.

The supporters of AI video generation claim that it will allow artists to quickly create complicated digital effects.

On the other hand, StabilityAI presents itself as the platform capable of “activating humanity’s potential through generative AI, with open models in every mode, for everyone, everywhere”.

From movies to social networks

Speaking of AI, recently, even the professional social network LinkedIn, announced that it will use models based on Artificial Intelligence

In practice, LinkedIn has notified its users of having updated its license agreement, including clauses where users agree to allow the company to use their data to train its AI models.

At the moment, the setting is not enabled in Europe and Switzerland. However, LinkedIn users involved can also choose to opt out simply by disabling the function.
