Google is developing a crypto security service for financial institutions that need to protect and transfer cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets. The product, Google Multi-Party Compute (MPC), is in private preview, with commercial availability expected in early 2027.

Several major financial institutions and design partners are testing the technology. Google’s parent company, Alphabet, already uses it to protect its own digital assets on the Ethereum and Solana blockchains.

How Google’s crypto security service works

The service uses multi-party computation to distribute private-key fragments among separate computing environments. It also checks institutional transaction rules before signing, reducing the risk that a single compromised machine will expose the assets.

Within a single digital-asset service, Google bundles MPC-based signing, transaction policies and key recovery as its crypto security offering. Financial institutions can thus tap into these functions via the purpose-built product instead of building the capabilities themselves.

According to Google, the company had not previously offered a dedicated MPC custody product for cryptocurrencies. Its already-running services include Google Cloud Key Management Service and Cloud HSM, tools institutions rely on to manage and safeguard cryptographic keys.

At present, the protections are centered on unauthorized transactions and compromised credentials. According to Google, post-quantum cryptography support could eventually be added to the service. The product, meanwhile, is still in private preview, with a commercial rollout anticipated in early 2027.
