On Monday 5 June, Apple finally unveiled its new Vision Pro AR/VR, which is supposed to have a major impact in the metaverse.

Let’s see all the details about it below.

What is Apple’s new Vision Pro?

During Apple’s WWDC 2203 event held on Monday 5 June, the company unveiled its newest AR/VR visor, called the Vision Pro.

This device has the potential to revolutionize the metaverse and represents Apple’s entry into the world of augmented reality, an area the company had long planned to explore.

The arrival of the Vision Pro was met with great enthusiasm, comparable to the launch of the Apple Watch in 2015.

The new product, being intended to compete with VR viewers such as the Meta Quest and other major devices, could make Apple have an even greater impact in the metaverse.

As we know, virtual reality was initially seen as the next evolution of the Internet, and many companies have adapted to this change, seeking to capitalize on the opportunities.

In fact, even Mark Zuckerberg shifted his company’s focus, creating Meta out of Facebook.

Now, with the official launch of the AR/VR Vision Pro visor, Apple may actually transform the market and have a significant impact on the metaverse as we know it.

Specifically, the product is a state-of-the-art headset that integrates some of Apple’s most popular apps and is available for $3,499.

In addition, according to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the Vision Pro can be controlled using hands, eyes or voice. One of the product’s interesting features is the ability to track the user’s eyes and highlight an icon on the device’s home screen.

During the announcement, it was also revealed that popular apps such as Disney+ would be available from the first day of launch. The Vision Pro also offers amazing features, such as EyeSight technology.

This innovation allows external people to see the user’s eyes and can even detect if the user is engaged or available.

It also allows users to see when someone enters their field of vision within the mixed reality experience offered by the product.

In addition, Apple unveiled a new biometric system called Optic ID for its Apple Vision Pro visor.

This technology analyzes the user’s iris to identify the user, similar to how Face ID works for the entire face on iPhones.

The visor operates on visionOS, an iOS-based operating system. The user interface is completely new, with a 3D spatial appearance and a home screen with a grid of mobile apps.

As made known, Apple has invested a lot of time in developing these technologies and producing them for the general public. However, although there have been rumors about these innovations for a long time, only now has the official announcement been made at Apple’s WWDC 2023.

Now, it only remains to be seen when the product will be available in the market. In any case, although there has been much speculation about the launch date, one thing is certain: this may be Apple’s first foray into the metaverse.

Apple’s opportunities within the metaverse

As anticipated above, Apple could revolutionize the perception of digital space with its Vision One AR/VR headset. More significantly, it could transform the interaction between the digital space and the ordinary consumer.

Indeed, VR viewers offer an enhancement to experiences in the metaverse and enable such digital environments to be explored. This opens up new opportunities for the evolution of the digital realm at an accelerated pace.

As we know, augmented reality overlays the real world with the virtual world. So, Apple’s large consumer base and their commitment to developing high-quality applications could open new prospects for this technology.

In particular, social platforms, gaming experiences, and other areas could benefit from rapid development due to Apple’s interest in this venture. Not surprisingly, as mentioned above, the entire industry seems excited by the idea of Apple’s involvement.

In this regard, the CEO of the VR/AR platform Campfire 3D stated the following:

“This is the biggest thing that could happen to this industry. Whether you build hardware or software, we’re passionate about it.”
